About Nicolette Kay

Nicolette is a theatre director, published writer, dramaturg and producer, with a special focus on the work of the award-winning Italian writer, Dacia Maraini.  She trained as an actress at the Drama Centre, London and played leading roles in mainstream companies and small scale feminist companies   She formed Muzikansky and New Shoes Theatre companies. See Biog.

  • Nicolette's Sydney production of Hurried Steps by Dacia Maraini, Translated by Sharon Wood is featured in two Italian books; CURIOSA DI MESTIERE SAGGI SU Dacia Maraini and ATTI DI ACCUSA (2021). The latter is now published in English by Methuen/Bloomsbury in STAGING VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND GIRLS

  • Nicolette most recently directed Birmingham Conservatoire second year students in TIME AND THE CONWAYS

  • Nicolette directed LOVE FOR LOVE by William Congreve Birmingham Conservatoire final year students at the Birmingham Old Rep Theatre [March 2022]

  • JEANNIE by Aimée Stuart, Finborough Theatre. A 1930s version of the Cinderella story from a rediscovered female playwright. More information and great reviews on the Finborough Theatre website.
